Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by surrounding yourself with art, culture, and community. This year, Dr. King will be celebrated in various ways around Metro Detroit. Here’s a look at what’s happening.

MLK Day Celebration

Monday, January 19th 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Join us for this year’s MLK Jr. Day Celebration, A Dream Rooted in Faith: The Legacy of the Black Church in Detroit During the Civil Rights Movement. Throughout the day, families can enjoy hands-on arts and crafts activities inspired by themes of community, justice, and faith. Participation is free with registration.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Henry Ford Museum 

Saturday, January 17 – Monday, January 19

Join us as we celebrate the life and lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a weekend of reflection, learning and inspiration. From January 17-19, experience three days of programs, performances and conversations that honor the enduring impact of his words and the profound mark his leadership has left on the American story. 23rd Annual Detroit MLK Day Rally and March

Monday, January 15th, 12:00 PM

Gather at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Detroit at noon for an MLK Day march that, this year, “honors six decades of mass movements in Detroit and beyond.” After the march, there will be a community meal. Learn more here.

MLK Celebration: Let Freedom Ring

Monday, January 19th, 4:00 PM

Rainbow PUSH will host “Let Freedom Ring,” a free public event, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday on Monday, January 15 at 5:00 PM at the historic Fox Theatre. Learn more here.
